“Okay, Mikey—bottoms up.” Tim handed Michael a glass of water and the GPS tracker he was about to swallow. Michael put the tiny tracker on his tongue then swallowed.

“It will last for seventy-two hours, but we will be tailing you pretty closely. If the information we found with Tristan’s help is correct, he’ll be heading towards the abandoned buildings on the other side of the island. If not, we’ll just follow your beacon. As they said over the phone, they’ll blindfold you and take you to Joshua, then release you both. Once you and Joshua are safe, Kyle and Christopher will hand over the proof Officer Standen will need to put David and his buddy Bruce right back where they belong.” Tim put a hand on Michael’s shoulder.

“As soon as they have you at the location, I will make my way to you and when you are both safely away I will make a citizen’s arrest. I have all the help I need right here.” Tim patted his hidden holstered Magnum. “Don’t worry. I’ve got a steady hand and eyes like an eagle. If I have to shoot either of them, I will—without hesitation.” Tim winked then hugged Michael.

Michael’s nerves were on edge. He hoped David and Bruce kept up on their end of the deal and took him right to Joshua. He hoped they knew if they hurt Joshua they would be in trouble with the law. Michael doubted either wanted to go back to jail.

If Dr. Nelson hadn’t called the cops after he found out why Michael collapsed then he would be less worried about the cops messing up their plans. Michael took the money out of an account and cashed in some investments he had overseas so the cops wouldn’t be alerted that he was going against their plan. This has to work.

Michael got into his car and headed towards the drop off location they had agreed to. He felt like he was going to be sick, but he knew he had to keep the tracking device down so Tim and the rest of the guys knew where he was. Michael took turns wiping his hands on this pants legs and steering, his nerves were on edge.

He pulled into the abandoned car wash that Joshua and Max had used. David was playing mind games with him by picking this location, but Michael didn’t care. He was anxious to get to Joshua. Even if this was their last day—if they could be together, Michael would die happy.

Michael got out of the car with his briefcase. He placed the briefcase on the roof of the car, then walked to the hood and placed his hands on top as they had instructed.

“Well, well, Michael. It’s good to see you after all of these years.”

The sound of David’s voice sent waves of hate through Michael. “David.” Michael ground out between clenched teeth.

“Don’t move.” David pulled one of Michael’s hands behind his back and locked the handcuff, then grabbed his other arm and locked his wrists together.
